David Jarvis of Station 34 in Dublin is the third firefighter with the division to die of COVID-19 complications.

Jarvis worked for the Columbus Division of Fire for 27 years. Columbus Fire spokesperson Rebecca Diehm said officials would release a statement later Friday.

He served in the military and worked on a Tactical Emergency Medical Support team with the Columbus Fire, fellow Firefighter John Patrick Hagan Jr. said.

“I think more than anything Dave loved being around his brothers and sisters he worked alongside,” Hagan Jr. said. “He always had a positive attitude, even after literally riding the Medic for five days straight.”

Firefighter Greg Bauer, 56, died on Oct. 18 due to complications with the virus, following the death of Firefighter Frank Duff Jr., 66, on Sept. 19.

The city of Columbus doesn't require employees to be vaccinated, nor does it ask workers to disclose their vaccination status. Officials have not said if the three firefighters have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
