CLEVES, Ohio — An area church is trying to feed 100,000 people this Thanksgiving and one volunteer is using social media to try and make that happen.
Sunny Gilpin is a busy mom of three, but she said the boxes she and her kids are filling up is a valuable lesson about helping others.
“It’s important for us as parents to show our kids that we have real needs in this community and they can do little things to help,” said Gilpin.
They’re filling up food boxes with a list of enough food to feed almost 100 people. It's all food that she bought with neighborhood donations she got asking for help on social media.
“I decided just to put up a quick post in our neighborhood Facebook group and ask people just for monetary donations to fill some boxes and within a couple hours we had enough to fill eight boxes,” said Gilpin.
They’re not alone.
Volunteers with Crossroads Church are aiming to feed 100,000 people with the food drive and give it to families in need right before Thanksgiving.
It's become a Thanksgiving tradition for the Gilpin family of volunteers.
“We’ve been blessed as a family and with me being able to be at home with my kids, it’s a way that I can give back and make it easy on other people,” said Gilpin.
Crossroads Church is still looking for volunteers to help.
