  • Officials say the corridor has lacked economic opportunities

  • The new corridor is expected to draw new housing units and Ohio’s first urban Meijer location

The area has been dubbed as the “Forgotten Triangle” for its lack of economic activity.

Nearly a decade after officials recommended a 35-mph boulevard, the Opportunity Corridor is set to open. In addition to the roadway, the Opportunity Corridor will include a multipurpose path for pedestrians and cyclists.

The first two phases of the project were completed by fall 2018. The third phase involved the area from Interstate 490 and East 55th Street to East 93rd Street.

The surrounding area has already drawn economic interest, according to Cleveland City Council. Cleveland City Council said that Meijer is planning on building its first urban location in Ohio near the corridor. There is also a planned 190 housing units for the area, which Cleveland City Council said will fulfill an unmet need for area workers.

"These projects are game changers in Fairfax," said Councilman Blaine Griffin. "Alone, these are very big deals, the new developments including housing and retail these will spur will transform the neighborhood."
