The approval came during the council’s Tuesday meeting by an 8-1 vote.

Jesse Drucker, the county’s director of human resources, told council members that he estimates that 43% of county employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

“I would like to see us come up to a 70% vaccination rate,” Drucker said. “Whether or not we can do that is another story. I think we would probably be successful at about 60%.”

The vaccination rate among county employees is far below the general population. According to the state of Ohio, 54.9% of all Cuyahoga County residents are fully vaccinated.

Drucker told the council that payments to employees would go out Dec. 10. In order to be eligible, employees would have to submit documentation with the county by Nov. 14, Drucker said.
