COLUMBUS, Ohio — Many of Ohio’s top performance venues will soon require patrons to either provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative coronavirus test for entry.

What You Need To Know

  • A number of Central Ohio’s top performance venues will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID test

  • The new protocols go in place Oct. 8

  • The announcement follows similar decisions made by theater groups in Cleveland and Cincinnati

  • Ryan is in the midst of a U.S. Senate campaign as he hopes to replace Sen. Rob Portman following the 2022 election

In a joint announcement by Central Ohio’s most prominent performing arts groups, the new protocols will go into effect Oct. 8. The announcement affects performances at the following venues:

  • Ohio Theatre
  • Palace Theatre
  • Southern Theatre
  • Lincoln Theatre
  • Riffe Center Theatre Complex, including the Davidson Theatre and three studio theatres
  • McCoy Center for the Arts during McCoy-presented performances
  • The Short North Stage at the Garden Theatre

According to the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA), those ages 12 and over will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccine or a negative antigen test administered by a healthcare or pharmacy provider within 24 hours of the performance or a negative COVID PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance. Those ages 18 and over also must produce photo ID.

In compliance with Columbus’ mask mandate, performance audience members are also required to wear a face covering.

CAPA notes that some performers may require attendees to be fully vaccinated and will not make an exception for those who provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test. For instance, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra will enact similar protocols on Sept. 25.

Events at most venues in Columbus will be held at full capacity despite the updated protocols.

Other prominent theater groups throughout the state, including Playhouse Square in Cleveland and the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati have implemented similar COVID-19 protocols.
