AVON LAKE, Ohio — Two adults and two children have been found shot to death inside a northeastern Ohio home, authorities said.
The bodies were found around 1:18 p.m. Tuesday when officers went to the Avon Lake home on English Turn Drive to conduct a welfare check. It’s not clear when the shootings occurred or what prompted the violence, but authorities believe the deaths are the result of a murder-suicide.
"The officers observed a suspicious condition inside the house, and requested detectives to respond," the Avon Lake Police Department wrote in a press release. "Officers and detectives made entry to the residence and located four deceased individuals with gunshot wounds, two adults and two children. The Lorain County Coroner was notified and made aware of the suspected murder-suicide."
The names of the four people were not released, and authorities have not said if they were all related. They also have not disclosed who sought the welfare check or why it was requested.
Avon Lake Schools sent an email Erieview Elementary families late Tuesday, informing them that they had lost two students.
“As we cope with this unimaginable grief, it is important that we recognize this loss and offer help," the email stated. "This is a sensitive issue for children, and we suggest that you talk with your children about their feelings."
Avon Lake police are investigating the deaths along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
