CLEVELAND — For 16 seasons, professional indoor soccer had a visible presence in northeast Ohio. First sharing Richfield Coliseum with the Cavs, then moving to Cleveland State’s Wolstein Center, the Cleveland Crunch — and the later renamed Cleveland Force — racked up three championships and other various trophies during their run.

After a nearly two-decade hiatus, the Crunch returned to Cleveland in 2021, albeit in a smaller venue. On Sunday, the Crunch picked up its fourth title, defeating the Wichita Wings 11-6 to win the Major Arena Soccer League 2 championship. The MASL 2 is the second division indoor soccer league behind the MASL.

Marijo Musa, a graduate of Eastlake North High School, was named the playoff MVP. Musa had 14 saves in Sunday’s championship match.

The Crunch went 7-3 during the regular season. Cleveland defeated the Amarillo Bombers on Saturday en route to Sunday’s championship game.

David Jordan, a Mentor High School grad who grew up going to Crunch games, described for Spectrum News in March what it was like getting to be part of the Crunch’s return to Cleveland.

“It just feels good knowing that, you know, I played at halftime for the Cleveland Crunch and watched them. And now, I'm the captain of the Cleveland Crunch,” said Jordan. “I’m living a bit of a dream right now. It's definitely fun to play for the Crunch and have that name back in Cleveland again.”
