CLEVELAND — A city of Cleveland arborist died Wednesday during a workplace incident, the city announced.

Sean Hudson was employed by the city of Cleveland for four years prior to his death. The incident took place at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens while Hudson was performing tree work.

An investigation is underway on what caused Hudson’s death, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said in a statement. Forthcoming details on the incident will be in a public report, the mayor’s office said.

“Sean was a city arborist, who passed away on July 14 after a fatal accident at one of our job sites. He began his career with us in 2017,” Jackson and the city said in a joint statement. “Sean was a valued and dedicated employee, held in the highest regard by his co-workers. He was a husband, father and friend who will be missed.”

The mayor’s office said that grief counselors are available on Thursday for city workers.

“The safety of our workforce is of the utmost importance and per protocol, we will conduct a thorough investigation into today’s incident,” the mayor and city added.
