COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium recently announced the birth of a Thomson's gazelle fawn.

The baby was born May 9 and is now being hand-raised by the Animal Care team after her mother died three days after givng birth due to complications from the delivery, zoo officials announced on Facebook and Twitter posts on Monday.

 

Even though the fawn is being hand-raised by the Animal Care team, zoo officials said she stays with a small group of gazelles at all times.

Zoo officials said the fawn is healthy and receiving proper nutrition in her behind-the-scenes habitat.
