CLEVELAND — As the USPS post office in the Buckeye Shaker neighborhood has been closed due to security improvements, the postal service issued an apology on Friday and announced the opening of a mobile post office.

The mobile post office will begin operations on May 24. It will be located at  2855 E. 130th St. in Cleveland. It will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. USPS says the mobile post office will offer standard services, such as money orders, package shipping and stamps. It will not process passports.

The announcement came after Cleveland Councilman Blaine Griffin protested the closing of the post office.

“This (sic) extremely unfair,” Griffin wrote on his Facebook page. “It is inconvenient for seniors who have to take long rides, take multiple buses and have to walk long distances to go to postal locations at Warrensville Heights or E. 101st and Chester. Families still utilize this post office. Message to the USPS: Open Up!”

The Shaker Finance Station is set to reopen in October.
