COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 100 new Ohio cases of the variant discovered in the United Kingdom, according to an update Sunday.

There have now been 275 CDC-confirmed Ohio cases of the more contagious variant B.1.1.7.

The agency issues reports three times per week tracking strains of the virus. Sunday’s report was a record for most new Ohio cases of the variant.

On Sunday, total U.S. cases rose to 10,579 after 2,424 more cases were reported.

Vaccine studies have shown strong efficacy against the variant. 

On Ohio’s borders, a significant number of variant cases have been reported in Michigan (1,287), and Pennsylvania (400). 

With 2,274 cases, leading the nation is Florida, where spring break revelers are drawing the ire of public health officials.
