INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA has announced the times and locations for the First Four and First Round games in the 2021 March Madness, including the teams representing Ohio in three of the four regions on the bracket.

No. 2 Ohio State University will play No. 15 Oral Roberts on Friday at 3 p.m. and broadcasted on CBS. The game will occur at Mackey Arena, the home arena of the Purdue Boilermakers.

Also on Friday, No. 15 Cleveland State University will play No. 2 Houston at 7:15 p.m. on truTV. The game will be played at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on the campus of Indiana University.

On Saturday, No. 15 Ohio University is scheduled to play No. 4 Virginia at 7:15 p.m. on truTV. That game is also set to be played at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana.

Cleveland State and Ohio were selected with automatic-qualifying bids, while Ohio State, the highest ranked of the three schools, claimed an at-large bid.

Ohio State was announced as the No. 2 seed of the South Region.

The announcement was made during the selection show Sunday, moments after the Buckeyes lost to Illinois — ultimately one of the NCAA Tournament’s No. 1 seeds — in overtime in the Big 10 Conference Tournament final, 91-88.

Ohio State finished fifth in the Big 10 in the regular season. Before reaching the tournament, the Buckeyes defeated Minnesota in the second round of the conference tournament, defeated Purdue in overtime in the quarterfinals, and upset top-seeded Michigan in the semifinals before losing in the championship.

Oral Roberts finished fourth in the Summit League in the regular season. The Golden Eagles won the Summit League championship by defeating North Dakota in the quarterfinals, top-seeded South Dakota State in the semifinals, and North Dakota State in the finals.

It is Ohio State’s 34th appearance in the tournament, and it is Oral Roberts’ sixth appearance in the tournament in school history.

Cleveland State University, the Horizon League champion, will represent Ohio in the Midwest Region as the region’s 15 seed whe the Vikings play second-seeded Houston, the American Athletic Conference champion.

Cleveland State was the top seed in the Horizon League Tournament and defeated Purdue - Fort Wayne in the quarterfinals, Milwaukee in the semifinals, and Oakland in the finals.

Houston was the second seed in the AAC Tournament and defeated Tulane in the quarterfinals, Memphis in the semifinals, and defeated Cincinnati in the finals to clinch the title and tournament bid.

This is Cleveland State’s third appearance in the tournament, and it is Houston’s 22nd appearance in March Madness.

Ohio University was announced as the 13-seed Sunday after the Bobcats won the Mid-American Conference on Saturday against Buffalo. Ohio will play against fourth-seeded Virginia in the West Region.

The Bobcats were the fifth seed in the MAC Tournament and defeated Kent State in the quarterfinals, top-seeded Toledo in the semifinals, and second-seeded Buffalo to take the conference’s automatic-qualifying bid.

Virginia was the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament and won its opening game versus Syracuse in the tournament’s quarterfinals. The Cavaliers then left the tournament with COVID-19-related issues when a positive test occurred inside the program.

This is Ohio’s 14th appearance in the tournament and Virginia’s 24th appearance. The Cavaliers were the 2019 NCAA champions.

If Cleveland State or Ohio cannot play due to COVID-19-related issues, Oakland and Buffalo would be next in line to represent their conferences.

Since the Big 10 has multiple teams in the tournament, if Ohio State cannot play, one of the teams in the “first four out” classification may take their place. The first four out are Louisville, Colorado State, Saint Louis, and Ole Miss.
