After a very quiet start to winter in January, February said "not so fast."

What You Need To Know

  • Everywhere in Ohio was colder than normal

  • February was second-snowiest on record in Cincinnati

  • Cleveland had below average snowfall

  • Columbus had normal rainfall, double the normal snow

Let's start with temperatures.

It was a cold month with average temperatures running about five degrees below normal in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati.

The standout statistic for February 2021 is the snow in Cincinnati.

The total for the month was 21.9 inches. Average snowfall for February in Cincinnati is just 6.5 inches.

This puts February 2021 in the Number 2 spot for snowiest Februaries on record. The top spot goes to 2010 with 26.1 inches of snow.

The majority of the snow this year happened between February 8-10, when 12.9 inches of snow accumulated in just that short time.

Columbus had double the amount that's considered normal and Cleveland actually had less than average.

Cincinnati again stands out with rainfall for the month. February 28 was the 10th-wettest single February day with 2.08 inches of rain.

Columbus came in pretty close to normal with precipitation, but Cleveland again was running on the dry side.

Even though we have been known to pick up some additional big snowfall amounts in March, this March is starting very dry and sunny. After a cold and snowy February, we'll enjoy March coming in like a lamb.
