OHIO — Starting Thursday, more Ohio residents can schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments with CVS.
The company was already offering the vaccines, but on a limited basis due to supply and demand.
CVS is offering the vaccines in 11 states total. Ohio is one of six states recently added to the list, including Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Louisiana and Pennsylvania. According to the company, it plans to administer 20-25 million shots per month.
Individuals can schedule an appointment at CVS.com or though the CVS Pharmacy App. Customer service can also be reached at 1-800-746-7287.
As of right now, Ohio is in its Phase 1B of vaccinations, meaning only those 65 and older, as well as people who are medically-vulnerable can receive a vaccine. DeWine said he hopes to soon expand eligibility to 60 and older, and then to 55 and older.
The company is opening locations for appointments in seven areas with vulnerable populations to allow for equitable access, which adds to the 19 additional CVS pharmacies which have been distributing vaccines since January.
CVS is able to distribute the vaccines through the The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, which is a collaboration between the federal government, states, 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is slowly building up the program as more vaccines become available.
