CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati men’s basketball team continues to struggle to be able to play its scheduled games due to concerns regarding COVID-19 cases and contact tracing surround the Bearcats and their American Athletic Conference opponents.
The AAC announced Monday the Cincinnati men’s basketball team’s upcoming game versus Wichita State on Wednesday, Jan. 27 was postponed due to concerns over player availability.
The Bearcats game at the University of South Florida on Saturday, Jan. 30, was postponed Friday as a result of contact tracing and player availability questions in the Bulls’ program.
The postponement of the game with USF is the fifth consecutive game unable to be played since Cincinnati last played Wichita State on Jan. 10.
According to news releases by the UC Athletic Department, games versus East Carolina, Temple, and Houston were postponed due to concerns inside the Bearcats’ program.
With the recent postponements, the basketball program will undertake limited team activities with a goal of returning to the court soon.
The Bearcats are currently scheduled to play Temple on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. inside Fifth Third Arena.
“The health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff remains the department’s primary focus and we continue to salute the work of our athletics medical staff,” the athletics department said in a statement.
