CINCINNATI — Three workers have been rescued from the Killen Generating Plant following a partial collapse of the building, according to Adams County Sheriff Kimmy Rogers.

Two workers remain unaccounted for.

Rogers says the powerplant, which has been closed since 2017, had a collapse around 8:30 a.m. Workers had been on scene as part of the demolition process, which began earlier this year.

Search and rescue teams are on site. The cause of the collapse hasn't been identified.

The Killen Generating Station began operations in 1982 closed in March 2017 along with the J.M. Stuart Station due to financial and environmental challenges. AES Ohio Generation operated the plant, which is a subsidiary of the AES Corporation.

There's been two recorded incidents in its nearly five-decade history. In 1984, a worker died after getting stuck in a coal chute and another worker died in 1994 from hypothermia on site.
