AKRON, Ohio – For nearly 40 years, Akron Children’s Hospital’s Holiday Tree Festival has been an anticipated seasonal event, drawing attendees from across the region and filling the halls of the John S. Knight Center with sparkle and cheer.

  • Akron Children’s Hospital’s Holiday Tree Festival has been an anticipated holiday event in Northeast Ohio for nearly 40 years.

  • The trees and other decorations are donated by organizations and families to raise money for Children’s Hospital programs and research.

  • This year, 3-foot tall and full-size trees, gifts and holiday decorations can be bid on or purchased online.



With the pandemic raging across Northeast Ohio and around the globe, the festival is still on, but virtual.

Each year, organizations, families and individuals from around the region decorate and donate trees, wreaths and holiday gifts.

 

The trees and other items are numbered for easy identification and are being raffled or sold in a two-day online event that runs through Saturday, Nov. 21 at midnight.

Some of this year’s available donations include:
• "The Pumpkin King's Christmas," donated and decorated by Kelly Benjamin and Kim Schwiegershausen, the a 3-foot tree is inspired by “The Nightmare Before Christmas” featuring Jack-o-Lantern and Jack Skelington ornaments.

 

 


• "Forevermore Peace On Earth," donated by Nichols Fence Co. and decorated by Patty Schutte Hoover, is one of the 7-foot silent auction trees. This tree was designed with the hopes that "we may unite with our hearts, wisdom, and strength for the most powerful Christmas wish in the world for all to come true
• "A Frozen Holiday," donated and decorated by Jody and Elyse Ball, is a 24-inch wreath inspired by the Disney movie “Frozen,” and is complete with sisters Anna and Elsa and their friends Kristoff, Sven and Olaf.
• "Gingerbread Holiday," donated by Prissy's Cottage and decorated by Phyllis and Samuel Strickler, is a 3-foot tree in honor of the donor's grandson, Samuel, and is filled with gingerbread boys and girls.
• "Take Ye Ole Records Off Ye Shelf," donated and decorated by Sherry and Judy Mosser, is a 3-foot display complete with records, a record stand, record player and assorted decorations.

Since the festival began in 1982, the event has raised $6.3 million to benefit Akron Children’s research and programs.

Those with winning bids can pick up items through a contactless pickup with COVID-19 precautions in place at the John S. Knight Center Nov. 22- 23. Large trees will be delivered within a 50-mile radius.
