COLUMBUS — Franklin County became the first county so far in the pandemic to enter the state’s “purple” designation, which indicates a crisis situation in which the spread of the virus is accelerating rapidly.

Columbus and Franklin County announced a stay-at-home advisory this week to combat the increasing case numbers in the county.

“For the first time, we have a county that will be purple,” Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday.

 

 

He said this is the county’s second week of six indicators meeting the state's purple criteria.

Franklin County’s COVID-19 case numbers increased from less than 150 per day to now more than 700 per day.

In Ohio, the number of hospitalized patients has doubled in the last 16 days, causing hospitals to suspend elective surgeries and schools to go virtual.
