CINCINNATI, Ohio —  Robert Carter is a hair salon owner, a hair stylist, and a father of five. He’s mastered multitasking too, but he’s had some practice.

“Now they’re able to sit down and do school work while I’m working,” said Carter.

  • Carter adopted five brothers and sisters and made headlines

  • Carter's family started a GoFundMe page and now raised more than $127K that he says will go towards a new house and the kids' college education

For the past four years, the 29-year-old has been a foster parent.

“I always wanted kids, but I’ve always known I was gonna have to adopt,” said Carter.

But he was never able to adopt, until he had his day in court.

On Adoption Day last month, a judge granted the adoption, and he officially became the father to all five brothers and sisters.

“That’s when I finally cried,” said Carter.

It was an emotional moment because he says he was in their shoes before.

“When I was about 12, I ended up in foster care — my mom had nine kids,” said Carter.

Separated from his own brothers and sisters, he wanted to make sure his kids got to be together.

“I just couldn’t let them go through what I went through with my siblings cause I knew firsthand how that felt and that trying to keep siblings together, especially when that’s all they got from their former life,” said Carter.

Even if that means he has to multitask and sometimes rely on his family to help babysit. Now that they are all together, he says they wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Now that it’s just me and the kids, we’re able to just live our lives now, just like a fresh start for us and for them,” said Carter.

Robert Carter’s family has also started a GoFundMe page and so far has raised close to $127K. The single father says he plans to use the money to pay for a new house and a college education for the kids.
