There was music, food, and fun activities for families to enjoy. Dayton-native Tom Hall made it his duty to bring his wife and kids here to support this event.

“Just trying to show the kids how to be an active citizen and do your part in things you believe in,” said Hall. “We take them with us when we go vote, and we wanted to take them to a protest.”

Supporting causes like the Black Lives Matter movement as a family is not only very important to Tom but to his daughter Hannah as well.

“Being here today is just supporting that everyone matters, and it was just wrong what happened,” said Hannah Hall.

Black Lives Matter movements have been taking place across the country for more than two weeks now. And Dayton residents wanted to put a twist on the typical protests by creating an event that was more enjoyable.

“While still pushing the message of justice and peace and still pushing that message of we want to be heard, we decided to take an element of joy and use that as a form of protest,” said Ronald Woodland, the protestival organizer.

Organizers say events like these are so important because it’s a creative way to unify people and spread the wor.

“The typical marches and walks are great and impactful, however, if we want to be heard and we want to make an impact, we have to be creative,” he said. “So we have to find other forms to use as protests and set it apart from what America and the rest of the world have seen.”

Woodland and his friends are looking to put on more events like these within the next couple of weeks.
