CLEVELAND, Ohio — On Saturday, the I-X Center hosted one of two seasonal job fairs they hold each year, and hiring managers say this was one of the largest turnouts they’ve ever had.
- Many Ohioans are still searching for work despite the state’s 4.2 percent unemployment rate
- Hiring managers at this weekend's I-X Center Job Fair in Cleveland, say it was one of their largest turnouts
- People say finding a job right now is difficult
"The turnout's been excellent. I pulled in at 8 a.m. and people were already waiting outside the door, so that just shows what kind of people are looking for employment in Cleveland,” said Claire Anter, director of marketing, I-X Center.
Claire Anter, from the I-X Center, said they’re looking to fill 75 to 100 positions in food and beverage and their operations department.
“They're ready to kick off the new year, maybe it's a part-time job they're looking for, maybe they're just getting back in the workplace, or they're young and they're just getting into the workplace, so, we have so many opportunities available,” said Anter.
Statistics from Ohio Means Jobs show there are more than 150,000 jobs available in the state.
More than 77,000 of them offer a 50K salary.
However, most who Spectrum News 1 caught up with at the job fair said finding a job is quite challenging right now.
“Where are the jobs at? Not only am I looking for a job, but there's a ton of people that I know in Lakewood, Garfield Heights, East Cleveland, Cleveland, Shaker, the list is long,” said Alfonso Tidwell, job seeker.
“It would be nice if it was full-time, but part-time would be fine, yeah,” said Chuck Levin, job seeker.
Some people say there can be specific reasons it’s tough to find work, such as having too much experience.
“Because of age, they think that age has a lot to do with it, but there are so many younger people who don't even want to work,” said Mary Lynn Church, job seeker.
Hiring managers at the I-X Center say they look to hire year-round.
“Like we're always looking for great workers, someone that's dedicated were a fun place to work.," said Anter. "There are some crazy hours, but believe me there's such benefits to working here.”
There are several events in Northeast Ohio this week aimed at helping people find work.
