CLEVELAND, Ohio — Tucked between university buildings on Case Western’s campus, sits a restaurant rich with history.

  • The award-winning restaurant is hoping to make diners feel like they’re visiting the French Countryside
  • It’s an upscale French dining experience, with a more casual feel
  • It's set in an old carriage house on the campus of Case Western Reserve University

“It was a French restaurant, previous to our reiteration of it, as well as it being an old carriage house that was here for a really long time, so I think the space is really special,” said Julian Bruell, Zack Bruell Restaurant Group.

Service and Wine Director Julian Bruell says L’Albatros is an upscale French dining experience— with a more casual feel.

“Where it can be formal, it can be casual, it can be a bistro, you can feel like you're in France or Cleveland, or Miami or wherever. So, I think, like, there's so many dining experiences that people can feel here, and I think that's pretty amazing,” said Bruell.

Bruell says the menu is quite large, but there are a few things you have to try.

“So, there's so many great options on the menu, so if you're looking for something like classic French, we do have our charcuterie board, which is like a little small preview of everything that is very classic French on the menu, so the terrain is on there, a foie gras mousse, chicken liver mousse, as well as prosciutto that we have on the board, and then different types of sausage, that we make in house,” said Bruell.

An appetizer and brunch favorite — their French toast.

“So, it's brioche bread with sautéed mushrooms on top and a balsamic glaze, so it's sweet and savory, and I think that's something that is unique,” said Bruell.

Bruell says they hope to have people come back and try something new each time.

He says he worked in New York for 5 years and L’Albatros is just as good as anything in the big city.

“I feel like our restaurant is a highlight of what Cleveland is and what it's going to be,” said Bruell.
