AKRON, Ohio — For Akron residents Dory Reedy and Tony Martin, planning their wedding was anything but ordinary.
- For the fourth year in a row, Akron Municipal Court is teaming up with the Akron Civic Theatre to offer Halloween-themed weddings at the historical theatre
- Judge Ron Cable will be officiating the weddings
- 10 couples are signed up to tie the knot on October 31
"We didn't really want too much attention around it… we just kind of wanted to get married," said Martin.
The couple started dating five years ago.
And in just a few days they're tying the knot.
But it won't be your average ceremony.
"We're actually dressing up as Bob and Linda from Bob's Burgers," said Reedy.
They're having their dream wedding — a Halloween-themed ceremony at the Akron Civic Theatre.
"Every year for Halloween, it seems we keep compiling more and more decorations and we both kind of get more into Halloween than the other holidays," said Martin.
For the fourth year, Akron Municipal Court is teaming up with the Akron Civic Theatre to offer Halloween-themed weddings.
Akron Municipal Court Judge Ron Cable will be the officiant.
"I'm pretty excited to do it, this is a fun part of my job and a lot of times people don't like to have to appear in front of a judge, but during all our weddings it's a special happy occasion," said Cable.
The ceremony costs $25 for couples in the court's jurisdiction and $40 for those who live outside it.
Last year, sixteen couples got married.
"To be married in this very magical, mystical place just speaks for itself,” said Valerie Renner, associate director of programming, Akron Civic Theatre. “It gives people an opportunity to come into the Civic that might not be able to rent the Civic for their personal wedding."
Reedy and Martin are one of 10 couples scheduled to get married on October 31.
A non-traditional wedding for a couple that's anything but traditional.
"Don't feel pressured by anybody that's trying to get you to do the traditional thing, just be who you are," said Reedy.
"The Halloween weddings will take place Thursday, October 31 at the Akron Civic Theatre. All appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis.
