GREEN, Ohio—The City of Green is launching a new program that gives anyone the opportunity to help someone suffering an opioid overdose using the power of technology.
- Businesses in the area are keeping NaloxBoxes on-site
- Residents can register as citizen first responders using the NaloxoFind app
- Efforts in Green have helped decrease overdose and overdose death rates
The Community of First Responders program launched Thursday night.
At the launch party, residents were encouraged to get trained on Narcan use and to let people know how they can help if they see someone overdosing.
Hotels like the Cambria Hotel and Suites and other businesses in the area are keeping Naloxone kits called NaloxBoxes on-site in case of emergency.
And residents who have Naloxone on hand can register as citizen first responders as well, using an app called NaloxoFind.
Cambria Hotel General Manager Shawn Danko says they've never had an overdose, but want to be ready to help if needed.
“I have a 13-and a 17-year-old and God forbid if something were to happen to them, I would want somebody to be prepared. And that's what's we're just doing… we're just trying to prepare ourselves…we hope we never have to use this product ever,” said Danko.
Summit County officials say efforts in Green have helped to drive down overdose and overdose death rates.
The NaloxoFind app is available on Apple and Android devices.
