There's been a lot of talk about Barry and it's tropical moisture making it's way into the Buckeye state Tuesday through Wednesday night but something more ominous is on the way. An extended heat wave with heat index values 100° to 110° is right around the corner. It's time to start planning for high heat and more than a few days of it.  Afternoon highs will be in the middle 90s (or more) Thursday through Sunday for many areas. This is the kind of heat that can be dangerous with little exposure to the outdoors because dew points will be so high. When dew points are high, it's very difficult for the body to cool down.

We went back to see when we saw heat this high for the state. It turns out, it hasn't been that long for some cities. Here are the last dates we saw 95° or greater.

Akron             9-5-18   95°

Cleveland       9-5-18    95°

Columbus       6-11-16  95°

Dayton           9-10-13  96°

Cincinnati       7-5-18    95°

There is some relief on the way early next week. A front will bring in some showers and storms on Monday and this will drop temperatures down into the upper 80s. After this weekend though, the upper 80s sound like a nice break. Stay safe and the meteorologists here will keep updating you on the heat wave right here on Spectrum News 1.
