CLEVELAND, Ohio—Tucked in Cleveland, you'll find b.a. Sweetie Candy Company.

  • Largest candy store in North America
  • Stocks over 500,000 lbs. of candy
  • Has a 6,000 sq. ft. Soda Shoppe Parlor that serves homemade ice cream

Originally named Bag A Sweet Candy Company, the store opened in 1950, supplying all sorts of candy to grocery, drug and convenience stores.

Tom Scheiman bought the company in 1982 and continues that tradition.

"It's absolutely awesome. The customers have so much fun in here,” said Scheiman, owner. “We're a throwback for grandma and grandpa, mom and dad… we have all of the new stuff for kids of all ages."

With over 500,000 pounds of candy, this sweet spot is the largest candy store in North America.

If you've had it and it's still in production, chances are they've stocked it.

Kathleen Van Umm came all the way from Georgia to meet her family in search of some of her childhood favorites.

"Gotta have the DOTS and the Hot Talmales. I grew up in the 70s, so I love the variety pack of all the 70's candy. You can get a little bit of each in the package, so it's fun and we'll make them do Pop Rocks tonight with Dr. Pepper and Coke and see what happens," said Kathleen.

Once the sugar rush hits, visitors can head out the door to enjoy a 36-hole miniature golf course.

And when you want to cool off and refuel, there's Sweetie's Soda Shoppe Parlor with ice cream that's made in-house.

"It's just absolutely incredible because they're going in different directions and they're looking for different items from their childhood and it's all different. We've got everything to take care of a sweet tooth from any generation," said Scheiman.

Spectrum News 1 caught up with customer Cedrick Hilliker just before he opened up his first box of Sour Patch Watermelon.

"I don't know what they taste like, but Mom's had them and I've never had them before and I'm going to open these up and taste what they taste like," said Hilliker.
