ELYRIA, Ohio — On a day when most would stay indoors, Gabe Leidy is facing the elements head on in an effort to capture some of the most breathtaking scenes that nature has to offer.

“Basically the type of days that nobody else likes to be outdoors are the times that I want to be outdoors,” said Leidy.

Just a few miles upstream from Lake Erie, Cascade Park is one of Leidy's favorite spots to photograph. It's a waterfall frozen in time.

“This entire thing will stop flowing at some point and then you’ll just have big crazy icicles hanging down."

Leidy's passion for the outdoors began with family camping trips. Those evolved to include hiking and kayaking.

“It just kind of builds an appreciation for nature that I feel like everybody should have.”

Leidy said staying safe is of utmost importance when photographic ice formations.

“Obviously anytime you’re hanging around or you’re walking on ice, safety is a huge issue.”

He said you always need to have permission from the location.
