1. Hurricane Ian makes landfall in South Carolina

Hurricane Ian has made its third landfall in the U.S., and fourth landfall including Cuba. Shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, Ian made landfall near Georgetown, S.C. with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph, a Category 1 hurricane.

2. Ohio Task Force 1 sends more team members to Florida with Hurricane Ian restoration efforts

Ohio Task Force 1 has been down south since Ian made landfall in Florida, but Ohio Task Force 1 got a call this week, asking for more team members to be sent to Florida to help.

3. GOP states sue Biden administration over student loan plan

In the lawsuit, the Republican states argue that Biden's cancellation plan is "not remotely tailored to address the effects of the pandemic on federal student loan borrowers," as required by the 2003 federal law that the administration is using as legal justification.

4. Incumbent DeWine leads gubernatorial race over former mayor, poll shows

An exclusive Spectrum News/Siena College Poll of Ohio likely voters showed incumbency could be key with Republican Gov. Mike DeWine leading Democrat and former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley 55% to 32% with a +/- 4-point margin of error.

5. The importance of growing native plants in Ohio

Plants can be beautiful, but Derrick Cooper, the Grand River restoration coordinator for The Nature Conservancy, said some of them can also be harmful.
