CINCINNATI — Dozens of people are believed to be dead after several tornados swept across the Midwest late Friday into Saturday.

Relief organizations all across Ohio are gearing up to help neighboring states. 

Matthew 25 Ministries crews loaded up relief trucks to head down to Kentucky.

Tarps are just some of the items that will be sent to help aid those impacted by the tornado.

Ben Williams is the director of disaster relief at Matthew 25. He and his crew got up early to map out a plan for their rescue relief.

With Christmas right around the corner, he said it makes the news even more devastating. 

“We want to not only provide them with supplies and things during this recovery but also to get them hope in this time,” he said. 

Once all the trucks are loaded up, the crew of about 10 people will make their trek down to Kentucky.

They plan to provide hundreds of items to those in need. The list of things they will deliver include laundry trailers, P&G personal care kits, Cintas first-aid safety supplies, tarps, water, diapers and Tide Pods, Williams said.

“We anticipate deploying early next week once the first responders have completed their work and they’re able to do search and rescue,” he said.  

Just two years ago, a tornado hit Celina and Dayton and Matthew Ministries was there to assist those impacted.

Williams said he and his crew are prepared to continue their efforts and help as much as they can.

“We’ll continue shipping aid to our partners in those areas for as long as needs continue, which for this situation, it’s unfortunately, going to be a long time to come,” he said.
