COLUMBUS, Ohio — College football fans around the nation will tune in Saturday night to watch the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Tennessee Volunteers in the first round of the College Football Playoff at Ohio Stadium.
Even the zoos are getting involved. Well, the Columbus Zoo and Zoo Knoxville, to be specific.
They have engaged in a friendly wager ahead of the big game, but conservation wins regardless.
If the Buckeyes win, Zoo Knoxville President and CEO Bill Street has to wear OSU colors and their zoo must make a donation to an animal program chosen by the Columbus Zoo, according to a Columbus Zoo press release.

On the other hand, if the Volunteers should come out on top, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium President and CEO Tom Schmid will need to don Tennessee’s iconic orange colors and make a donation to a conservation project of Zoo Knoxville’s choosing.
“This is a great way to support our teams and wildlife conservation,” Street said in the release.

Additionally, in the spirit of competition, the zoos have taken to temporarily renaming their red pandas. They will be called orange pandas at the Zoo Knoxville and scarlet Pandas at the Columbus Zoo.
The zoos both currently have four red pandas, according to the release, and have both been caring for the species since the 70s.
“Zoo Knoxville is great at conservation, but we’re confident the Buckeyes will secure the win on game day!” Schmid said in the release. “While we have a little fun with this friendly competition, both of our zoos share a passion for making a difference and together we’re proud to continue our collective efforts to ensure a brighter future for red pandas and other species.”
Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 8 p.m.
