CLEVELAND — More than 100 first-time voters in northeast Ohio marched from Trinity Church to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections on Tuesday. The event was organized by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and the Greater Cleveland Congregations.

One of the students who voted early was Ladarious Winters. He was nervous about his first time voting but excited about so many people coming to vote together for their first time.

“It’s pretty cool because it’s a lot of young people that’s just turned 18,” Winters said.

Another first-time voter, Marrae Chavis, explained the emotions she was feeling before casting her first-ever ballot.

“It’s a lot of mixed feelings about being a first time voter because I’ve never done it before,” Chavis said.

Chavis said she was happy that she was doing it among others who were in her same shoes.

“It has a sense of community, you know, cause I’m not the only one who’s never voted before,” Chavis said.

She said she knows that using her voice is what’s important.

“It gives me like I guess kind of like control. It makes me feel like you know what I’m doing matters,” Chavis said.

Many first-time voters chanted “let’s go vote” while walking to the Board of Elections and seemed excited to make their voice heard in this election.
