OHIO — After a round of showers and thunderstorm moved across the state earlier in the day, Spectrum News 1 Ohio meteorologists are tracking the potential for strong storms this evening. Some of those storms could be severe with the risk of damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.
A Tornado Watch is in effect for a large portion of Ohio until midnight including Cincinatti, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo.
“We could see multiple rounds of storms during the evening and tonight,” said Meteorologist Erin Carroll. “It's been warm, it's been sunny and this will help fuel strong to severe storms. We also have the ingredients for seeing multiple hazards, which include: damaging winds, hail, brief tornadoes and plenty of lightning.”
“Any storms that develop could turn severe, with the greatest risk for severe weather in the southwestern part of the state, including Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati,” Carroll said.
Carroll added that thunderstorms could produce repeat downpours over the same areas which could lead to some flooding
Cooler temperatures are expected heading into the weekend and early next week.
