AKRON, Ohio — A 15-year-old Firestone Community Learning Center student was taken to Akron’s Children’s Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed by another student during an altercation, according to Akron police.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, two male freshman students fought in the first floor bathroom at Firestone CLC. Police were called at 1:12 p.m. to assist the school resource officer, said Akron Police Lt. Michael Miller.

The school resource officer detained the alleged assailant, a 14-year-old male, who was then taken into custody and brought to the police station for questioning.

According to a release from the police department, felonious assault and possibly other charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

Akron Public Schools Superintendent Christine Fowler-Mack released a written statement:

“We are grateful for the quick actions of our student resource officer at the school, who responded instantly, went into the bathroom, and apprehended the suspect while summoning aid for the victim. Akron police are working with our security teams to assess what led to this senseless act of violence and how a weapon ended up in a student’s hands while in school. Our school administrators at Firestone have been in communication with Firestone families conveying everything we know about what happened today. We pray for the student who was attacked and will be reassessing security procedures as we prepare for class next week.”
