CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Clinic prepared 25 pallets full of medical equipment this week to ship to Ukraine, the hospital system announced.
The items include surgical supplies, syringes, catheters, bandages, personal protective equipment and more. The Cleveland Clinic’s goal is to support clinicians by providing health care supplies so they can deliver care to those in need.
The Cleveland Clinic said supplies will be transported to the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation in Maryland and airlifted to Europe. The supplies will be transported to humanitarian aid hubs in Ukraine near borders with Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. The Cleveland Clinic said it will take seven to 10 days for supplies to reach Ukraine.
“As a global organization, our care for the community extends around the world,” said Steve Downey, chief supply chain and patient support services officer at Cleveland Clinic. “Health crises know no borders, and neither does our responsibility to support clinicians caring for those who are suffering.”
Other equipment from northeast Ohio could soon find its way to Ukraine. Earlier this week, Cuyahoga County Council members voted in favor of sending surplus personal protection gear to support Ukraine forces.
