PARMA, Ohio — Parma has one of the largest populations of Ukrainian people in Ohio, and right in the middle of the city’s Ukrainian Village is Breads and Beyond Bakery.

“We’ve been here for 25 years,” said owner Robert Uhlir, “and I’ve had Ukranian employees that were very good workers. We’re surrounded by the community and we wanted to help.”

Uhlir has a lot of gratitude for his community, so, when Ukranian employee, Maria Krasniansky, had the idea to sell cookies resembling the Ukranian flag, he went with the idea.

The bakery made cookies with a purpose: to raise money for the United Ukrainian Organization of Ohio.

“We sold over 2,700 cookies, and raised over $4,000,” said Uhlir.
