CLEVELAND — The U.S. Coast Guard found three unresponsive boaters on Lake Erie near downtown Cleveland on Wednesday evening.
According to Cleveland Police, the three boaters, did not survive.
Cleveland Police named two of the victims, Christopher Kedas, 45, of Huron and Frank Opaskar, 76, of Avon Lake. The two men were considered "dead on arrival" according to a report.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Exmainer confirmed that 11-year-old Owen Kedas of Huron was the third victim. EMTs attempted to revive the boy.
The Coast Guard said it responded to a boat doing circles around 6 p.m. on Wednesday by the water intake near downtown Cleveland. Coast Guard officials said they put the boat in neutral and broke a window.
An alarm for a dangerous gas sounded during the rescue attempt, according to the Coast Guard.
The boat was then towed to shore where EMS officials attempted to revive the victims. A second Coast Guard boat and a helicopter responded to the incident.
Cleveland Police is leading the investigation.
