CINCINNATI — A day after botched kick attempts snatched defeat away from the jaws of victory, the Cincinnati Bengals signed a new long snapper to the active roster.
What You Need To Know
- Bengals long snapper Clark Harris injured his biceps during the season opener versus the Pittsburgh Steelers
- Third-string tight end Mitchell Wilcox was called on as the emergency snapper
- Rookie Cal Adomitis was signed from the practice squad
The Bengals announced Monday afternoon the team signed Cal Adomitis from the practice squad. Adomitis signed with Cincinnati as an undrafted rookie in May after five seasons at the University of Pittsburgh.
In a corresponding move, Cincinnati placed Clark Harris, a 14-year veteran, on the Reserve/Injured list. Harris injured his biceps during the season opener versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After Harris’ injury, third-string tight end Mitchell Wilcox was called on as the emergency snapper. His two attempts included a blocked extra point to win the game with no time remaining, and a high snap on a field goal attempt in overtime, leading to a kick by Evan McPherson that went wide left.
Both were chances to clinch the win for Cincinnati.
Harris said during the summer he would mentor Adomitis and expected him to be the next long snapper for the Bengals whenever Harris’ time was done.
The Bengals next play the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Sept. 18 at 4:25 p.m.
