CINCINNATI — For his role in leading the Cincinnati Bengals to an AFC North title, the Pro Football Writers of America's named quarterback Joe Burrow the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year.
Quarterback Jon Kitna in 2003 was the only previous Bengals recipient. The award has been bestowed annually since 1992.
Burrow set a club record for touchdowns this season with 34. He was eighth in the league in passing with 4,611 yards.
Burrow missed six games in his 2020 rookie season due to a knee injury. The previous season, Burrow won a national title with LSU and went on to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
He has now led the Bengals to their third AFC championship game and could potentially return Cincinnati to the Super Bowl for the first time in 33 years.
