CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland restaurant is going back to the root of it all in their farm-to-table approach and their mission isn't just about good food.
Spice Kitchen & Bar in Ohio City is an award-winning restaurant, but the owner started with a catering company in his grandma’s basement.
- Food and drink menus change seasonally
- Goal is to source at least 80% of all ingredients from small family farms practicing sustainable forms of agriculture within a 150-mile radius of Cleveland
- Located at the gateway to Gordon Square Arts District, about 10 minutes west of downtown Cleveland
“There was a real need in Ohio for authentic farm-to-table catering. All the food, for the most part, is the same and it was so easy to exceed guest expectations.” said Ben Bebenroth, owner of the Spice Kitchen & Bar. “We operate under extreme authenticity, so we believe that when we stick close to the season and close to the region, we’re doing the best thing we can for a community and the best thing we can for our environment.”
Proximity and the environment are at the top of Bebenroth's list because what we eat, has a big impact.
“It’s the number one thing that you do that has the largest carbon footprint out of any activity in the human," said Bebenroth.
Spice Acres, in Brecksville, grows many of the restaurant's produce and they outsource within 100 miles for the rest of their ingredients.
It's simply good food, that’ll make you feel right at home.
