WORCESTER, Mass. - Friends and family of a 3-year-old girl battling a form of kidney cancer gathered at the Vernon Hill American Legion Post on Sunday for a raffle and live music to raise money for her treatment.
Ryla was diagnosed with stage III Willis tumor, a type of kidney cancer that has spread beyond the kidneys into nearby areas of the body.
The event was organized by her aunt Kerri Collins, and dozens of people were in attendance.
Parents David Poske and Breanna Monroe said they were grateful for the support.
"It's awesome, honestly I never imagined so many people showing up to show support for our baby," Poske said.
"I think it's amazing, we're very thankful to the Post for hosting it, and for Kerri Collins for putting it together," Monroe said.
As of Sunday afternoon, the family had reached more than 80% of its fundraising goal. The money will be used to help cover medical expenses and lost wages from Ryla's parents as they spend time away from work to focus on her health.
