In collaboration with the Springfield Rescue Mission, her goal is to provide warm clothing and food for those facing homelessness.

"We're collecting for the Springfield Rescue Mission," Bruno said. "We're collecting non-perishable food items, canned goods, new hats and gloves for men, women and children and new toys for their Christmas dinner."

It's the third year of Bruno's drive and the second year in a row she's partnering with the Hampden County nonprofit.

And while she said it's important for people to give back year-round, coming together during the holidays holds a little more meaning.

"I think it's really important not just for Christmas but all year-round to give back," she said. "But Christmas just holds a special warmth for the season and I just think it's really important for kids to understand to give back and for the adults to understand that there's faith to be left had for the people."

Bruno said people can donate anytime to her home on 77 Daley Street, but of course many enjoy the light display in the evening.

"I think we donated 100 pounds of food last year and we donated about four or five trash bags worth of new toys," she said. "So I'm hoping to get beyond that but obviously whatever people give is just as appreciated."

Bruno said she will be around on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday nights specifically from 5-7 p.m. for people who would like a photo at the display as well as goodie bag distribution for children who show up.

The drive itself will run until Dec. 15.
