HOLDEN, Mass. - A brush fire has been burning in Holden since Wednesday. The town of Holden got some help from about 15 other communities on Saturday as the fire department continues to keep the fire under control for the fourth straight day near the Paxton town line.

Holden FD said residents may notice a smokey haze and the smell of burning brush this weekend as the fire is impacting about three to four acres.

Deputy Fire Chief Sean Smith said the issue is the fire is burning about 16 to 20 inches into the ground.

"We anticipate this is going to burn for several days until we get some precipitation," Smith said. "This ongoing drought that we've had for the last several weeks isn't helping. There's no significant rainfall in the in the forecast. So this is a challenge that we continue to face."

The fire is near the Asnebumskit Hill Trailhead between South Road and Route 31.
