SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - For more than 30 years, the Fear on the Farm exhibit at McCray's Country Creamery and Farm in South Hadley has been bringing scary times to Western Massachusetts.

"The clown will come out and hop out and actually hop onto the car," said McCray's Farm Fear on the Farm General Manager Briget Reilly.  "And then on this side, this clown puppet hops out and actually reaches onto the car."

Reilly says its been a goal of hers and her husband Dan Augusto since 1991. Dan pitched his Halloween themed idea to several farms before finding a partner at the South Hadley creamery and farm.

"Thirty-four years ago, Dan came over," she said. "He's always loved Halloween just because having grown up poor in South Holyoke, it was the one day of the year he could be somebody else and forget about being poor.

Skeletons, goblins and scarecrows are some of many props on the spooky farm set up to provide patrons with a few jump scares.

Reilly said several of the items on display are handmade and designed and inspired by current and former staff.

"In front of the haunted house, that plastic. It's called 'Vaquform,'" she said. "It came not painted so one of our crew painted it. That pumpkin right there that's in front of the haunted house. That's an old propane tank that two of our ladies painted and turned it into a pumpkin."

On Thursday, Reilly gave Spectrum News 1 a tour of the area ahead of another weekend of Halloween adventure.

She said this time of year is special for her because it gives her staff a feeling of community.

"To be able to know that the people that are not accepted by the world for the rest of the year," she said. "For those 15 nights have a place to be and that we're providing that for those people, for our actors, actresses and for our crew."

Fear on the Farm at McCray's will be open on Fridays and weekend nights through Sunday, Oct. 27.
