SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Advocates supporting Question 4 on the Mass. ballot held an event at the Bilingual Veterans Outreach Center in Springfield Tuesday afternoon.

Leaders including Reps. Lindsay Sabadosa and Carlos Gonzalez were in attendance to advocate for voters to say 'Yes' to Question 4, which would pass a state law allowing regulated access to natural psychedelics for people 21 and over.

It would also permit the sale of the substances at approved locations for use under the supervision of a licensed facilitator and would be overseen by a new Natural Psychedelic Substances Commission.

Some of the local leaders who spoke said the use of the substance could help people especially veterans dealing with mental health issues like depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

"The decisions of individuals with their medical experts to provide access to whatever measures are possible," said Gonzalez, D- 10th Hampden District. "Assist with the mental health issues that are impacting our veterans but our community in general."

Opponents worry legal access to psychedelics could potentially worsen a person's condition.
