PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Vice President Kamala Harris is expected in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Saturday.

Sherwood Guernsey, one of the co-organizers of Harris’ fundraiser event, is excited about how much it means to Berkshire County to have this visit.

“We’re a very rural area and it’s a special honor to have a potential president the sitting vice president here in our midst everybody has gone bananas to be frank so it’s a great and exciting time and, as I said, it’s an honor and I’m real proud,” Guernsey said.

People in the city are excited about the visit as well.

Jose Reyes, the co-owner of the newly opened Rare 297 steakhouse, is excited to have the vice president nearby and hopefully bring in more foot traffic to his business. 

“We are preparing more than normally because I think personally as a business owner I think that would bring more traffic for the weekend. I started seeing those things last night cause people coming over to the city late at night,” Reyes said.

State Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier, who represents Pittsfield, said lots of political groups in the area have been energized by the visit. 

“The Berkshire Democratic Brigades is very much part of this, the Massachusetts Democratic Party is part of this, organizing and getting people excited and organizing about what we’re going to do next you know we have to take all of this enthusiasm and turn it into something,” Farley-Bouvier said.

The vice president's event is occurring at the Colonial Theatre and is sold out.
