WARREN, Mass. – Thursday marks 24 years since 16-year-old Molly Bish disappeared while on her lifeguard shift at Comins Pond in Warren. Her remains were found three years later a few miles away in the woods of Palmer. No one has been charged with her murder.
The Worcester County district attorney's office released a statement Thursday saying State Police detectives are actively investigating and determined to solve the case to bring justice for Bish's family.
In 2021, the DA's office identified Francis Sumner Sr., as a person of interest in the case. Sumner died in 2016.
Bish's sister, Heather Bish, said the decades-long investigation has been difficult.
The Bish family proposed legislation to allow use of DNA samples from biological relatives of people who are listed as suspects to help with investigating unsolved crimes.
"I am hopeful for DNA and science, of course," Heather Bish said. "I think that's always expanding and growing and changing the results of crimes, but I'm also very vocal, and I have been for a long time, about the level of training in law enforcement. And now I think is the time to really make those changes."
The Worcester County DA's office encourages anyone with information about Molly Bish, or any other unresolved case, to call or email State Police Detectives.
