NORTHBORO, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team beat WPI 16-3 on Tuesday night in a NEWMAC battle and local rivalry.
The Cougars put this one away with a 10-run third inning.
Clark strung together scrappy at-bats, many times getting on base early in innings without the ball leaving the infield. They then started to crack a few into the outfield, with Brayden Hollinrake capping it off with a two-run home run.
Hollinrake had five RBIs and three hits including the round-tripper. Clark teamate Ryan Caulfield had three hits and two RBI.
WPI was led by Andrew Cash who had a triple and two walks.
Clark needs to sweep a doubleheader against MIT on Saturday to earn the final playoff spot in the NEWMAC Tournament. Clark is now 20-15, while WPI is 19-13-1.
