WILBRAHAM, Mass. - Western Massachusetts residents will now be able to enjoy a brand-new senior center in Wilbraham.
The building project cost around $13 million with some of the funds being paid for by town fundraisers and local organizations like the Friends of the Wilbraham Seniors.
The center is now located behind the town hall and has several new features including a cafe, a lounge area, as well as a library and a larger exercise room.
Director of Elder Affairs Paula Dubord says the new senior center will provide the elderly community with more opportunities to stay healthy and engaged with their friends.
"The socialization is so key to keep people happy and healthy," Dubord said. "Out of the hospitals, out of nursing homes and this is the kind of the place that helps do that."
The Wilbraham Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 to 4 p.m. Visitors are welcome to tour the new building as well.
