The non-profit organization works with low-income families across Hampden County through homeownership and home preservation opportunities.
Among the volunteers was 23-year-old Madisen DiLauro from Connecticut, who was helping build a planter box with her mother and father.
"I think it just makes you feel good," said DiLauro. "I think there's always a reason to help people, and I always feel like you don't do enough so it's a good time to help out."
DiLauro said its her first time working with the nonprofit as well as with power tools.
"I think so far it's been great," DiLauro said. "Really organized easy to work as a team. It's been awesome."
Giroux said events like the "Spring into Action" build day can inspire more volunteer support.
"So things like this are a nice way for people to come out and feel comfortable," Giroux said. "We're trying to learn how to measure things, how to use the saws, and our goal is that after being here they're going to want to come back to our build site and help us with the construction of a home."
Greater Springfield Habitat For Humanity will be hosting a free financial seminar for the community on Tuesday.
