NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - A celebration of Black history is being held at the Smith College Museum of Art this weekend in the form of a special a pop-up art exhibit.

The theme of the event is "Black Art + Love," with nearly 30 prints from photographs to paintings put together by members of Smith College's Black Faculty & Staff Affinity Group. The pieces were crafted by artists of the Black diaspora, including images of Black queer women from South Africa and watercolor paintings of Malcolm X.

Museum associate director of communications Tiffany Bradley said it can challenging to explain Black history, so art can be another great tool for sharing several experiences from the Black community.

"Art is a way to reflect a different narrative and multiple experiences of Blackness," Bradley said. "And one of my favorite things working with my colleagues on this show was actually that we do have so many versions of what Blackness and what Black love looks like."

The "Black Art + Love" pop-up exhibit will run through Saturday afternoon. Museum admission is free and open to the public.
